Post-doctoral Research Associate for modelling the impact of geochemistry and geomechanical coupling on flow through fracture networks in the context of CCS

Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, UK

Post-doctoral research associate

Starting as soon as possible until 31/5/2021

The Multi-scale Multi-physics modelling team of the carbonates group (carbonates.hw.ac.uk) at the Institute of GeoEnergy Engineering of Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, UK is seeking a research associate (RA) for the development of model concepts and numerical solvers as well as their application in the context of leakage risk assessment for geological CO2 storage operations. The specific processes we are interested in are the geochemical and geomechanical change of flow properties and their effective representation in coarse models that represent whole storage complexes. The implementation framework is the MATLAB reservoir simulation toolbox (sintef.no/mrst). The position is funded through two EU projects: “DETECT – Determining the risk of CO2 leakage along fractures of the primary caprock using an integrated monitoring and hydro-mechanical-chemical approach” (https://geoenergy.hw.ac.uk/research/detect/) and “SECURe- Subsurface Evaluation of CCS and Unconventional Risks” (http://www.securegeoenergy.eu). The project has a definite end date of 31 May 2021, so the contract duration will depend on the start date and will go until 31 May 2021. For further information on the job and how to apply, please visithttps://www.hw.ac.uk/about/work/jobs/job_SVJDMjUyMzE.htm. The closing date is the 16th of January 2020. Also feel free to contact Florian Doster (F.Doster@hw.ac.uk) if you have any questions.
