Abstract Submission Deadline – 08 January

The abstract submission deadline has been moved to 08 January. As opposed to previous years, there will be no extension of the deadline! This deadline applies to in-person oral presentations only. Submissions for in-person posters and online presentations will be accepted until Friday, 19 April 2024.

Submit your abstract

Each year, InterPore Foundation provides grants for scientists and students from countries with economic difficulties.

These grants allow students and scientists, who would not otherwise be able to attend InterPore2024, to gain experience and exposure and build their scientific network.

The number of grants we can provide is dependent on the generous support of people like you!

Help InterPore Foundation enable the participation of your fellow researchers to our Qingdao Conference.

SAC in Qingdao

The Students Affairs Committee (SAC) activities (in collaboration with student LOC) is planning several exciting events for young researchers at InterPore2024:

  • Career Development Event
  • Grant Writing Workshop
  • Game Night and Networking for ECRs (early-career researchers)
  • Chinese Art: Experiencing calligraphy and paper cutting

Stay tuned for more information on each of these events!

Invited Student Paper Award

If you have not yet submitted your abstract for InterPore2024, don’t forget that the Society’s new journal, InterPore Journal, has an “Invited Student Paper Award”. This award is for all students participating in the annual meetings. .

One can apply for this at the time of abstract submission via the provided field. The minisymposia conveners will nominate students for this award after all presentations have been given. Following nomination, the editors of InterPore Journal will ask all nominees to write a two-page synopsis of their work. This synopsis will be evaluated by the editors, and up to eight nominees will be chosen as an award recipient. These eight nominees will then be requested to submit a paper to InterPore Journal, and all papers that are then accepted will receive the “Best Student Paper Award”. The winners will be announced at the next Annual Conference as well as on all social media channels and the Journal and Society websites. For more information on this award, please see here.

Invited speaker

In anticipation of InterPore2024, we’re introducing the invited speakers in today’s and forthcoming Newsletters and Bulletins. This week: TieJun (TJ) Zhang.

Physical Insights into Phase Transition and Capillary Transport in Porous Media with In-situ NMR-MRI Characterization

Prof. TieJun (TJ) Zhang is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Khalifa University and a Member of the Mohammed bin Rashed Academy of Scientists (UAE’s National Academy). He also serves as the Theme Leader of Abu Dhabi Virtual Research Institute for Sustainability (Energy).

Abstract Interfacial transport and phase transition are essential for a large variety of energy and sustainability applications, while in-situ characterization provides instrumental ways of probing and enhancing thermal-fluid transport in porous media. In this talk, I will share our recent progresses on water evaporation and ice melting in homogeneous and heterogeneous opaque porous media by utilizing non-destructive nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). By characterizing the… continue reading

Room Reservations at the Shangri-La Hotel

Reduced rates at the luxurious 5-star hotel are available for InterPore participants. Rooms can be booked through the reservation link at the discounted rate of ¥900 (€116)/night, including breakfast, for single rooms. Double rooms will be available at ¥1000 (€130)/night, including breakfast.

And now… Qingdao!

InterPore2024 will be in Qingdao. Described as a city of “red tiles green trees, blue sky, and blue sea.” Qingdao has a lot of things to offer with respect to science, science history and porous media. This week: Advection Fog

Advection fog in Qingdao is a special weather phenomenon that usually occurs in the morning or evening of spring and summer. When warm and humid air advection to a colder underlying surface, the lower part cools and forms fog, known as advection fog. This fog “entangles” the buildings in the city, making people on the ground feel like they are in a fairyland.

In Qingdao, advection fog is common in coastal areas, especially in the south of the city. The appearance of advection fog makes Qingdao’s urban scenery more charming, with buildings and mountains appearing and disappearing in the fog, giving a mysterious feeling. Sometimes, advection fog can also affect traffic and tourism activities, but at the same time, it adds a unique style to Qingdao’s city.
