interpore news

Dear InterPore colleagues,

With a nice reflection on InterPore2022 from our InterPore president, there remains little need for me to add to it. However, as Michel Quintard implies, it does take a great organization to pull off a great conference. With that in mind, I would like to point out the call for nominations for the upcoming elections in November. Please take a moment to consider any potential candidates who can shape InterPore in the years ahead.

All the best,

Matthijs de Winter

Letter from our president

Dear Participants,

On behalf of InterPore’s Executive Committee, thank you for attending in-person or on-line the 14th Annual Meeting of the International Society for Porous Media, InterPore, on May 30 – June 2, 2022, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. After two online conferences, it was great that we could revive the experience of in-person participation, with intense and lively discussions about concepts and practices in the interdisciplinary field of porous media. This was also the first InterPore attempt to organize a hybrid conference. Initial feedback already received tell us that the experience was a success, which is to be largely credited to the dedicated, skillful, and hardworking InterPore staff.

Local Organizing Committee

I express my gratitude to the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of Khalifa University, led by Arif Sultan Al Hammadi (LOC General Chair) and Mohamed Sassi (LOC Chair), with the contributions from many other university members. They did an excellent job organizing and in a shorter period of time than usual due to Covid-19 pandemic uncertainties.

Events Committee

We must thank the chair of Events Committee, Oleg Iliev, for his efforts to find the most suitable venues for our symposium in the somehow unpredictable pandemic context. We must also be grateful to the Program Committee, co-chaired by Patrick Jenny and Sridhar Ranganathan, for the composition of an excellent program in accordance with the Society goal to cover all applications in porous media. Efforts of Mohaddeseh Mousavi Nezhad and her colleagues in organizing the MDPI Best Student Poster Presentation Award are also greatly appreciated. Finally, special thanks go to the organizers of minisymposia for their valuable role in the scientific program.

Short courses

I also thank the InterPore Academy and the lecturers for the organization of two full-day, in-person short courses.

Sponsors

We gratefully acknowledge the support of all exhibitors and sponsors, specially our platinum sponsors Kimberly-Clark, ThermoFischer Scientific, ADNOC, and Khalifa University.

Photographs from the symposium can be viewed on the InterPore2022 page in Whova. Please feel free to upload your photos to Whova.

A book of abstracts presented at the conference is available here.

Don’t forget to fill out the post-event survey, which you should have received about a week ago. I thank you in advance for your comments and suggestions, which will enable us to continue improving the conference to meet the needs of our members. In particular, your feedback about this first experience with the hybrid format is valuable for future planning.

I wish you all the best and look forward to your continued engagement in InterPore.

See you in Edinburgh in May 2023!

Michel Quintard

Rosette 2022

InterPore activities are carried out mainly by volunteers. It takes many voluntary working hours to make an international platform like InterPore a success. Recognizing and honoring volunteers sets a standard for service, encourages a sustained commitment to participation, and inspires others to commit themselves as well.

Each year, InterPore honors selected individuals who have made very significant contributions to InterPore activities; they receive the InterPore Rosette. The awardees are selected by the Executive Committee of InterPore. The following recipients of 2022 were announced during InterPore2022.

  • Sridhar Ranganathan
  • Patrick Jenny
  • Shuyu Sun
  • Vahid J Niasar
  • Thomas Ramstad
  • Mohaddeseh Mousavi Nezhad
  • Anne M. Hansen
  • Emad Al Shalabi
  • Muhammed Arif
  • Mohamed Sassi

Congratulations and thank you once more for all the work you have done for InterPore!
