InterPore UK Meetings – InterPore UK Kick-off Meeting

UK Chapter Kick-off Meeting 

The Interpore UK Chapter Kick-off Meeting in collaboration with PMPM (http://www.pmpm.org.uk/ ), organized by Vahid J. Niasar,  was successfully held on August 25th 2015 at the University of Manchester.

This meeting aimed to form InterPore UK Chapter as well as the UK chapter steering committee. This organization  will serve as an excellent platform to strengthen the porous media- related research by creating the synergy between the UK-based researchers in industry and academia.

The meeting was opened by the keynote speech given by Prof. Oleg Iliev (ITWM, Germany). The programme comprised of eleven talks and six micro-Talks on various topics such as hydrogeology, petroleum engineering, waste disposal, drug delivery, and geothermal energy. From the University of Manchester, Dr Cathy Hollis, Dr. Nima Shokri and Dr. Vahid J. Niasar presented their research. There were 35 attendees from all over UK such as Heriot-Watt University, Teesside University, Durham University, Imperial College London, Loughborough University, University of Warwick, and University of Manchester.

Activities

  • liaison with interpore and future chapters from other countries.
  • establishing a platform for porous media researchers, engineers and authorities in the netherlands:
    • creating an overview / inventory of r&d groups (academia and industry) and their focus areas.
    • promoting publication of research spotlights in the interpore newsletter.
  • establishing a forum of expertise from academia and industry aiming at identifying engineering problems associated with porous media.
  • offering consultancy and advice to industry, universities and authorities.
  • attracting new members to interpore.
  • providing input to annual meetings of interpore.
  • providing input to the interpore newsletter.
  • organizing national meetings (the next interpore pmpm meeting will be in january 2016).
