InterPore Benelux Meetings – 4th Benelux Day Report

The 4th Interpore BeNeLux day was successfully held on 2nd of November at the University of Twente (NL) and attracted over 50 people. During this on-line event, speakers from companies and academia from the Benelux region presented latest developments and innovations in the area porous media and interfacial phenomena, with the aim to promote collaboration among these players. The event had long presentations from invited scientists as well as short selected presentations.

The morning sessions opened with a welcoming presentation given by Prof. Stefan Luding from the University of Twente, who then chaired the first session and introduced the first presenter; Prof. Bernhard Peters from the University of Luxembourg, who gave an overview on how chemical reactions affect transport phenomena in porous media. The second long presentation was given by Prof. Holger Steep from the University of Stuttgart. The topic of his presentation was fracture permeability modeling and hydromechanical rock physics. This was followed by several short presentations covering various subjects related to porous media, including water penetration in paper, dispersion in 3D porous media, as well as an overview of the research activities at multiscale porous media lab of Utrecht University. In the afternoon sessions,  Prof. Anton Darhuber from TU Eindhoven talked about sorptive heating of thin porous media. The last invited talk was given by Louis Saes from Canon and covered today’s water-based inkjet printing challenges. The second round of short presentations were then given by young researchers from various industrial and academic sectors, on different subjects such as colloid transport, gas transport through dilatant pathways, and liquid imbibition in nanopores. At the close of the meeting, Nicolae Tomozeiu from Canon gave a short speech, announcing Sorin Pop from Hasselt University as the new chair of interpore BeNeLux
