Summary of the Course:

This course will introduce students to basic principles in multiphase flow in porous media.

Course Topics:

  • Fluid displacement in a capillary tube, the role of interfacial tensions and wetting, Navier-Stokes Equations
  • Flow regimes and wetting, capillary number, and viscosity rations
  • Drainage, Imbibition, and steady state flow
  • Darcy’s law for multiphase flow, pending questions
  • Special cases I:, gasses, three phase flow, emulsions
  • Special cases II: species transport during multiphase flow, non-Newtonian

Duration: 12 hours total (3 hours per week)
