InterPore News featuring Call for bids InterPore2029

Sent on: 19-06-2026

Dear InterPore colleagues,

Earlier this week, I visited a one-day symposium on Pandemic Preparedness-modelling, which ranges from supply change models for medical supply to multi-scale agent based epidemiology and human behavior modelling (to vaccinate: yes or no, for example). I don’t recall any equation shown during that modelling meeting. How much different with our usual InterPore meetings (annual meeting, chapter meetings, courses, webinars, PMTTT… - see all below)!

Perhaps because it was oriented towards policymakers. And one policymaker explained: The minister decides from a single sheet of paper with options A, B and C including explanation. So much for whatever boundary conditions or experimental uncertainties! I reckon there is a very challenging gap between what scientists produce and how in the end policy is decided. But given the global challenges, we must work to close that gap!

All the best,

Matthijs de Winter

InterPore2026 in Nantes marked our first time attending this conference. As a manufacturer of X-ray tomography equipment, it was a fantastic opportunity to meet the international porous media community. We were able to engage with researchers from a wide range of application fields to gain a better understanding of their needs. The demonstrations and mini-workshops held on our tomograph at the event provided a platform for discussion on a wide range of topics. Thanks for the smooth organization and to all participants. Looking forward to seeing you next year in Brazil!
