Holiday Message from InterPore's President

Dear InterPore members and friends in the community,

As 2025 draws to a close, I am filled with gratitude and optimism for our community and for the field of porous media science. This year marked the start of my term as InterPore President. I wish to thank Professor Karsten Thompson for his outstanding leadership in shaping the InterPore Strategic Plan: a vision that continues to guide our efforts to strengthen our community, broaden participation, and connect porous media research with global challenges.

It has been an extraordinary year for our discipline. The Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to Professors Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson, and Omar Yaghi for their pioneering work on metal organic frameworks marks a milestone for all of us. Many will recall Professor Kitagawa’s inspiring keynote at InterPore2024 in Qingdao; the Nobel announcement felt like a continuation of that inspiration and a celebration of how far our field has come.

Our 2025 Annual Meeting in Albuquerque was a vibrant success, showcasing the strength and diversity of our community. Unfortunately, visa and administrative hurdles prevented some colleagues, including myself, from attending in person. This year has also been marked by global challenges and conflicts that have affected many lives, including those within our academic community. In such times, InterPore’s shared values of openness, respect, and scientific collaboration remain vital, bringing people together and fostering understanding through the universal language of science.

Looking ahead, the 2026 Annual Meeting in Nantes, France, will be another exciting milestone, a chance to reconnect, strengthen collaborations, and celebrate the growing influence of porous media science across materials, geoscience, and engineering.

I extend my heartfelt thanks to all members, the InterPore Office, committees, and volunteers for their dedication and creativity. Your efforts are the foundation of our society’s continued growth and impact.
