PORE 3-2: Fundamentals of Geothermal Reservoir Engineering
Join us from July 9th-17th for our next Academy course "PORE 3-2: Fundamentals of Geothermal Reservoir Engineering" taught by Rita Esuru Okoroafor, Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University.
This four-day course provides a comprehensive foundation in geothermal reservoir engineering, emphasizing both theory and practical applications. Participants will explore geothermal energy fundamentals, fluid and heat flow dynamics, multiphase systems, reservoir heterogeneity, and energy conversion. Advanced topics include Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS), closed-loop designs, oil and gas well conversions, thermal energy storage optimization, power plant efficiency calculations, and geothermal reserve estimation. The course will equip participants with the skills to address challenges in geothermal reservoir optimization and energy production through hands-on simulations using analytical and proxy models, and real-world case studies.
What Will You Learn?
- Day 1: Focuses on the foundations of geothermal energy and flow dynamics, aiming to build a strong understanding of geothermal systems and the principles of fluid and heat flow dynamics in porous media.
- Day 2: Delves into multiphase flow, reservoir heterogeneity, and energy conversion, with the objective of exploring the complexities and challenges of these systems beyond conventional setups.
- Day 3: Highlights oil and gas well conversions and unconventional geothermal systems, emphasizing the repurposing of existing wells and employing simulations for unconventional geothermal systems.
- Day 4: Concludes with geothermal reserve estimation, system optimization, and future trends, synthesizing the knowledge gained throughout the course and examining advancements shaping the future of geothermal energy.
The course will be hosted on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:00-11:00 am Central Daylight Time: July 9th, 10th, 16th, & 17th.
All lectures will be offered live, and participants are expected to attend all sessions in order to be granted a certificate of attendance. Recordings of the lectures will be provided in most cases within 24 hours after each session. These recordings will be available for 1 month following course completion.
