The 16th France InterPore Chapter Conference (JEMP: Journées d’Etudes des Milieux Poreux) was held at IFP Energies Nouvelles in Rueil-Malmaison, October 17-19, 2023. This year was the 30th anniversary of this biennial conference. The JEMP are a major event bringing together a wide academic and industrial community from France (and beyond) working on porous media and represent an excellent opportunity for very rich exchanges on recent research in the field. This year, 137 researchers from more than 30 research institutions, universities and industries participated in the conference.

Six plenary sessions were given by Prof. Sophie Roman (University of Orleans, France), Prof. Adrian Bejan (Duke University, USA, InterPore Kimberly-Clark lecturer), Prof. Philippe Coussot (University Gustave Eiffel, France), Prof. Linda Luquot (University of Montpellier, France), Prof. Stefania Specchi (Politecnico di Torino, Italy), and Pierre Levitz (Sorbonne University, France).

Over the three days of the conference, 80 oral presentations were given and 22 posters were displayed. The oral presentations were organized into 13 thematic sessions covering a broad spectrum of research on porous media. The thematic sessions addressed the following topics: Multiphase - multi-components systems, Numerical modeling of flows in porous media, Mechanical, chemical and thermal coupling between fluids and matrix in porous media, CO2 Storage, Behavior of complex fluids in porous media, Electrochemical energy storage, Characterization, imaging, digital generation of porous media, Reactive porous structures, Biological porous media, Multiscale fibrous media, nano and micro porous media and Mechanics of porous media: deformation, failure, damage. A special session was dedicated to the memory of our colleague, Prof. M. Panfilov, who passed away last May and made a remarkable contribution to research on flow and transport in porous media. Moreover, a poster-pitch session was held in addition to the session dedicated to posters. Details on the sessions, plenary speeches and abstracts are available on the conference website.
The conference was sponsored by TotalEnergies, SERLABO Technologies, TESCAN, CEA and STORENGY. Prizes for the best doctoral thesis and best poster have been awarded during the conference. This year, two laureates received the prize for the best PhD thesis. Granted jointly by the FIC and IFPEN, they were awarded to Omar Mokhtari (University of Toulouse) and Noura Eddaoui (University of Lorraine (Nancy)). The best poster prize, granted by the FIC, was awarded to Amin Rezaei (University of Rennes).

The France Interpore Chapter (FIC) General Assembly was held on the second day of the conference. The new steering committee of the FIC was presented and the 30th anniversary of the JEMP was celebrated. Important coming up events of the FIC were announced, including the RIWES (Regional InterPore Workshop on Energy Storage) that will take place on September 12-13, 2024 in Hasselt (Belgium) and the winter school APPRISE (Fundamentals of trAnsport Phenomena in PoRous medIa across ScalEs) to be held in Aussois (Alpes, France), February 5-9, 2024. The General Assembly was also the opportunity for the FIC to congratulate the organizing committee and thank them for the excellent organization.

The 17th edition of the JEMP will be held in Orléans in 2025.
