Matteo is driven to advance the mathematical modelling of porous media to tackle challenges in energy, environment, and complex fluids. His work integrates fluid mechanics, numerical analysis, and multiscale modelling to simulate flow, transport, and reactive processes in heterogeneous porous systems. These include both natural and engineered materials, from geological formations to soft composites and electrochemical devices. His research bridges theory and computation, aiming to develop predictive, efficient, and open-source tools. Specific areas of expertise include: Multiscale Modelling and Upscaling; Anomalous Transport and Filtration; Electrochemical and Reactive Flows; Data Assimilation and Model Reduction; Computational Methods for Porous Systems.
