InterPore Honorary Membership Award
The Honorary Membership Award is reserved for individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to porous media science and technology, who are world renown in the porous media community, and whose contributions are consistent with the aims and ideals of InterPore. This award will be given to only one individual per year. The award consists of a certificate, lifetime InterPore membership, and a travel grant of 1,000 € for participation in the InterPore Annual Meeting and Con-ference.
Nomination packages should include: a nomination letter (maximum length two pages), the candidate's CV (maximum length ten pages), list of publications, and up to five supporting letters (maximum length two pages each).
Nominations of truly outstanding candidates are solicited from all branches of porous media science and technology.
The nomination should highlight the most important achievements of the candidate and make clear the contributions to the advancement of the ideals and aims of InterPore. Nominations should be submitted to: nomination@interpore.org. Deadline for submission of complete nomination packages is November 15, 2011.
InterPore Fraunhofer Award for Young Researchers
The International Society for Porous Media, InterPo-re, on behalf of the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics, ITWM, will grant in 2012 an Award to a Young Researcher working in the areas of porous and composite materials modelling and computer simulation.
Specific areas of research include mathematical modelling at all scales, analysis of deformable porous media, and characterization of porous media structure. The Award will be given in recognition of outstanding contributions to the above topics, and it will be presented during the InterPore conference 2012 at Purdue University.
Nominees must be young researchers (up to 40 years) with at most three years of experience after completing the PhD.
Nomination packages should include:
a full CV including a publication list of the candidate, a nomination letter including explicit reference to the contributions to the aforementioned topics (maximum length two pages), up to two additional supporting letters (maximum length two pages), and related documentation (publications, reports) supporting the nomination.
Nomination packages should be submitted to nomination@interpore.org.
Deadline for receipt of complete nomination packages is March 15, 2012.
Award winners will spend a period of approximately three months working on joint research at Fraunhofer ITWM (to be realized in 2012-2014). The award recipient will be paid a monthly stipend while in residence at Fraunhofer ITWM which totals around 5,000 € for 3 months. The Award also includes a contribution to the travel expenses, up to 300 € for a winner from Europe, and up to 500 € for a winner from outside Europe.
InterPore Procter & Gamble Award for Porous Media Research
The InterPore Procter and Gamble Award for Porous Media Research is given in recognition of outstanding contributions to topics related to swelling porous media, very thin porous media, and modelling of interfaces between porous media. The award includes both 5,000 € and an award certificate.
Nomination packages should include:
A nomination letter (maximum length two pages) including explicit reference to the contributions to the aforementioned topics
Up to two supporting letters (maximum length two pages)
Copies of related publications (in electronic format) supporting the contributions of the nominee to the aforementioned topics. A specific requirement is that these contributions should have been published in the last five years preceding the year of nomination
A full CV of the nominee (maximum length two pages), including a full publication list.
Nominees must be members of InterPore.
Nomination packages should be submitted to nomination@interpore.org.
Deadline for receipt of complete nomination packages is Feb 15, 2012.
Procter & Gamble Student Award
The Procter and Gamble Student Award is given in recognition of outstanding student poster presentations at the annual InterPore conference. Up to two awards will be given each year, each consisting of a prize of 500 €.
Eligibility
Eligibility for the P&G Student Award is limited to Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral students who present a poster at the InterPore conference. The work presented in the poster should have been carried out while the nominee was a student. To be considered, the nominee must currently be a student or must have completed her/his degree within one year of the InterPore conference. The poster must be presented by the nominated student.
Topics
All topics relevant to the mission of InterPore and to the study of flow in porous media, broadly defined, will be eligible for this student award.
Nominations
Nominations should be submitted to the InterPore Honours and Awards Committee via (nomination@interpore.org) by the supervisor of the student or a related professional colleague. All nominations must be submitted to the committee prior to April 30 each year. The nomination package should include a nomination letter (one page) and the presented poster (in electronic format). While posters may have multiple authors, the nominator must certify, as part of the nomination letter, that the work presented in the poster has been done primarily by the student.
Assessment
The Committee will evaluate the nominated posters using a set of criteria that include, but are not limited to, importance and relevance of the problem, innovation, scientific quality of the research, and quality of presentation, both visual and oral. For one of the two awards, additional consideration will be given to posters that address the following topics: thin porous media, including those whose thickness is the same order of magnitude as the pore sizes; interfaces between porous medium domains; and swelling porous media. Evaluations of the nominated student posters will be made during the poster presentations, and award winners will be announced before the conclusion of the Annual InterPore conference.
